The History of Lakeshore Title Company...

In 1985, father and son, Theodore R. Dungjen and Brian W. Dungjen formed Lakeshore Title Company.  In the beginning, Lakeshore Title Company serviced Kalkaska, Benzie, Grand Traverse, Antrim and Leelanau counties.  They were headquartered in a basement office in Traverse City and supported by a 2-drawer file cabinet and an IBM typewriter.  In the intervening years, Lakeshore Title Company has grown to a full service title insurance and closing company with 11 full time employees.  In 1986, Lakeshore Title Company relocated their offices to Beulah. Lakeshore Title Company worked to expand their service and in 1988 hired Paul Szymanski, an examiner with 13 years of experience in Benzie County.

In 1991 they expanded the service offerings by merging with Crystal Lake Title Company.  The owner of Crystal Lake Title Company, Linda Moorey Kehr, an attorney, joined the staff to provide legal services as well as add her years of experience in Benzie County title matters. Lakeshore Title Company has since focused their attention on providing service to clients in Benzie, Manistee, and Leelanau counties.

During Lakeshore Title Company’s long time association with the lenders and realtors of the Benzie County area, the staff has developed many friendly relationships with them.  To show their appreciation, Lakeshore Title Company began an Open House tradition involving a summer afternoon of barbecue, live music, and the chance to set aside business concerns for a while and just enjoy the people that make the company and community successful.  The Open House debuted in 1992 to celebrate the designation of the Beulah office as the Lakeshore Title Company World Headquarters, and has become a favorite and anticipated event for the staff and clients.  Our most recent event celebrated the retirement of our founder, Ted Dungjen and the advent of his sons, Brian and Bill taking over management duties.

Lakeshore Title Company is looking forward to the technological advances being made which hold great promise for the future of title insurance and is committed to providing an improved level of personal service and friendly concern for our customers in the faster paced, electronic age.  It has always been the mission of Lakeshore Title Company to provide courteous service.  The information age provides us more opportunities to insure our clients receive the optimal value for their title insurance premium and the most careful and considered approach to the closing of their real estate transactions.
